The Historic First Baptist Church of Beech Island Core Beliefs

Core Tenets

We are an historic Baptist Church and hold to the views of the founders of the Baptist Denomination.  We hold the Baptist Distinctives:

B.  Biblical Authority:  The Bible is our final authority in all matters of faith and practice.

A.  Autonomy of the Local Church:  Each congregation is accountable for their flock.

P.  Priesthood of believers:  Each member of a church is a priest.

T.  Two Ordinances:  There are two ordinances:  Baptism and the Lord's Supper.

I.  Individual Soul Liberty:  Our beliefs of conscience and should not be coerced.

S.  Sacred Church Membership:  Our church members must be saved and baptized.

T.  Two Offices:  There are two distinct offices within the congregation, specifically (1) Pastors/Elders and (2) Deacons.

Our members also adhere to one or both of the following confessions of faith, which detail the basic tenets upon which our faith is founded:

     1.  The Baptist Faith and Message, 2000, and

     2.  The London Baptist Confession of Faith, 1646

God, the Father Almighty, The Creator

We believe in one God, Creator of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen, holy, sovereign, eternal; three existing equally, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ, The ONly Son of God, Our Redeemer

We believe in the absolute, sovereign deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, who lived and died for the forgiveness of our sins and that we may have life everlasting.

The Holy Spirit, Our Sustainer

We believe in the Holy Spirit who comforts and sustains us, guides us and strengthens us during this life and until such time as Christ shall return.

Salvation

We believe that we are saved from the eternal death and into eternal life by accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and the only Son of God, by confessing our sins and seeking forgiveness.  We believe that all who ask with a repentant heart will be forgiven by God's Grace.  Salvation is available to all who seek Him and believe.

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved."  John 3:16-17 (KJV).

This is a verse that is familiar to many, Christians and non-believers alike.  Visit Historic First Baptist Church of Beech Island and learn the true meaning behind these beloved words and how they can change your life and ensure your eternity.
